After a roller coaster filled, yet ultimately memorably forgettable season the ballots are still uncounted as to whether the city of Miami has finally found their answer at quarterback. There was lots of ups and downs during the season, and even some impressive come from behind wins against some top level quarterbacks, such as Tom Brady, and Ben Roethlisberger, but ultimately Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins could not win either of their last two games against the sub-par division rival Jets and Bills.

So now Ryan Tannehill will be entering his crucial make or break third year as a starting quarterback in the NFL, and the million dollar question for Pay per head sites like Ace Per Head fans still hangs in the air for this young man; is he a franchise quarterback for this Miami Dolphins football team who has not been blessed in this position since the forced retirement of the great Dan Marino? The critics and fans are still mixed in their belief on if Tannehill is the long term solution for the quarterback hungry franchise. Tannehill’s yardage, touchdowns and QB rating were all higher then his rookie season. However his interceptions and sacks were up as well. (In regards to the 58 sacks, his offensive line was just down right terrible, however, RT’s pocket presence was at times mind-boggling absent.)

The pass receiving weapons surrounding Tannehill were upgraded over the 2013 offseason, and this was partly responsible for Tannehill’s increase in production. However at the same time, his running game was non-existent for most of the season, and his offensive line was allowing pressure to rush in faster then the Walt Disney Turnstiles on a summers day in Orlando.

Even with the improvements in production, when it is all said and done, after 2 complete seasons Tannehill has a sub 500 record of 15-17 and has yet to lead the Dolphins to the promise land of the playoffs. In this “what have you shown me lately” NFL, RT will most likely be on a short leash this season, and anything short of a winning record, or a playoff appearance will more then likely result in the firing of coach Philbin, and the beginning of yet another search for a franchise quarterback for the Miami Dolphins.

In my opinion Tannehill has definitely shown flashes of being the guy all of us Phin fans are hoping for. But he has also shown that he still needs to make significant strides forward, especially in the long ball and pocket presence department. Any  fan would be correct to say that the 2014 season is loaded like a sawed off shot gun full of pressure for this young man. What ever the results are, I think phins fans will finally have their verdict on the all important question of whether Ryan Tannehill the answer or not?
