Injuries Piling Up

injuries week2

The Dolphins have only completed one game so far this season, which means there is plenty of football left to play. However, the list of injured players is growing very fast. There are quite a few key players that are nursing hamstring injuries and other aliments, and it will be very interesting to see which players will be active for the upcoming Jaguars game.

At the moment Reshad Jones and Cameron Wake are suffering from hamstring injuries and were held out of practice on Wednesday. The best sportsbooks in the world are betting that both players will be active for this upcoming game, but they may be somewhat limited. In addition Derrick Shelby is recovering from a nasty black eye, Olivier Vernon is recovering from an ankle injury, and Dion Sims is recovering from his concussion, and will need to pass the NFL’s concussion protocol in order to receive clearance. In regards to Sims, there is no set timetable on when he will be able to return. Jason Fox, who suffered a concussion during the preseason, was finally finally able to practice without limitation for the first time on Wednesday, 3 weeks after he suffered his concussion.

The NFL is a long grueling season, and one of the keys to being successful is being able to stay healthy. The coaching staff and doctors must be careful to not rush back any players that are not ready to play, because it is possible to make the injury even worse. So caution is always something a franchise must keep in mind.

For me the most important player on this injury list is Reshad Jones. Jones was an absolute tackling beast against the Redskins who had a total of 12 tackles. I remember one play, when the Redskins ran a wide reverse that appeared to have a lot of open space, and could go for a healthy chunk of yards, but then all of sudden Jones came flying out of no where and made a terrific first down saving tackle. This was just a sample of Jones’ aggressive play making ability, and he is one of the cornerstones of Miami’s defense, and needs to be in the lineup. This is especially crucial due to FS being the weak spot that it is.

If some of these key players can not play, then that means other players such as Terrence Fede, Michael Thomas and even Chris McCain need to step in and be ready for when their number is called. Football is a team game, and all 53 players on the game day roster need to be ready and capable to play. Which players in particular in this list of injured players are Miami Dolphins news fans most concerned about being able to play this Sunday?
