Arian Foster Is A Dolphin

A very team friendly deal has Foster a Dolphins running back.

Arian Foster is a Miami Dolphins running back with a very team friendly deal.

In  a fair  bit of irony, Foster now runs for the team that knocked him out last year.

29-year old Arian Foster is now a Miami Dolphins running back.

The stable of backs just expanded, adding much needed talent and depth to a unit that had some question marks attached to the squad.

The new Dolphin signed a cap friendly deal that has a sticker tag price of $1.5 million dollars as the base.

Now, the bulk of the contract lies in incentives, which is always a win-win for a team. With near $2 million dollars on the table should the former Pro-Bowl player perform, he has all the incentive in the world to make sure that he has a “good” year for his new team.

Foster could be cut with very little impact as the Dolphins are $15 million under the cap.

With a workout scheduled on Friday with the Detroit Lions, Miami had pressure to make a decision before the decision was taken out of their hands. With this quick move, they eliminated both the chances of losing Foster and the Detroit Lions sweetening the pot and forcing the Dolphins to have to match the offer.

With camp less than two weeks away, Miami has strengthened a weakness and given themselves an opportunity of making a low risk, high reward move in a position that coach Adam Gase highly values. Extra value also lies in the fact that this move comes with zero long-term commitment. Given that the 2017 Draft is expected to have loads of talent at the Running Back position, it helps the team building side of the Dolphins operation by not committing a player beyond this season.

In the end, if Foster doesn’t pan out, very little is lost. But, if he does, then the best sportsbooks may have to adjust their odds on Miami’s success in 2016. When you calculate production and pay, it will be interesting to see who wins out in the team swap of running back between the Texans and the Dolphins. Go Fins!!!

…lest we forget, we still don’t have a single proven starting caliber guard …I know, I know …Tunsil etc etc etc …but the guy is a tackle, always has been, and is built to be just that …there is a very legitimate question still unanswered as to whether any of the many tackles we have can successfully play guard at the level this team needs
…I’m not convinced by any means that the OL problems are fixed …its a major “if” in my book until I see it in the game
…every RB we have or get is going to underperform if the OL can’t open a running lane

Lemmus I’m in your camp…O-Line most crucial unit in the game of football. I’m trying to put stats together for an article..but, from what I’m reading and seeing, the NFL is moving it’s line talent inside. With the flipping of DE’s top talent both right and left, and the Ds moving alot of inside overloads and realizing that inside pressure is a higher premium than exterior, G’s and C’s are becoming as valuable (some are saying more so) as the LT used to be. So, I’m in your camp, but when you have two terrible G’s as last year even mediocre talent a G will produce a huge difference. We both know this isn’t a one year fix…I am troubled at the interior talent, but not to the point you are…least not yet.

I understand that Tunsil has never played a full game at guard in his life, but the two starting jobs at guard for Miami seem to be up for grabs. Right now, there appears to be a six-man competition for the two spots,

with former-Pro Bowl tackle Jermon Bushrod (shoulder)
      Kraig Urbik,
      Dallas Thomas,
      Billy Turner and
Jamil Douglas joining Tunsil in what should be a heated position battle during training camp.

Maybe we don’t have a problem with the offensive guards under a competent Coaching staff now?

We may have the Best line in the NFL Why?
      1. Center Mike Pouncey and tackles Branden Albert and Ja’Wuan James Will Start!

      2. The issue is to name the starting Guards.
      a. Billy Turner we drafted in 2014 the Dolphins failed him by not properly developing him. “But! It has been
said that his chances are good. Also I did not know that Turner broke his foot his 1st year.
      b. Jermon Bushrod is a former Pro Bowler his Shoulder is not cleared medically yet.
c, Kraig Urbik Can play any position on the line.

Tackles Laremy Tunsil A Big plus should stay at ‘Tackle”.

This Coaching Staff I believe will do a better job developing our players. I think we have the Best line in our Division. Maybe Louis Vasquez from Denver is still available for additional insurance he did help Denver to a Supper Bowl last year?

The biggest concern I have with the Dolphins is our Backfield. The Defensive and Special teams the pieces are there! The Old Dolphins Regime never new what they had in talent?

    Hello Dolfans

Bishop Sankey was drafted second round 54th pick 2014. He’s on a losing team and I honestly believed that the Titans don’t know his potential. He rush for over 3,000 yards in college and Durable, He played all 16 games his rookie season durable. So what! the Titans have a slew of running backs. But I will say this you read it here that the New England Pat’s will steal him for nothing and Bill Be-la-Check will again be thought to be a genius with Sankey in his running game?

Bishop Sankey was “mostly at the back of the line” for running back reps at Titans OTAs.

Coach Mike Mularkey insisted Sankey did “very well” with his opportunities, but there may no longer be a roster spot for Sankey in Tennessee. DeMarco Murray, rookie Derrick Henry, and change-of-pace back Dexter McCluster have jobs sewn up. Sankey will fight Antonio Andrews and David Cobb for the Titans’ fourth running back position, assuming of course that Tennessee keeps four. Jul 7 – 9:26 PM

ESPN Titans reporter Paul Kuharsky kept RB Bishop Sankey on his 53-man roster projection.

Kuharsky kept Sankey around instead of Antonio Andrews and 2015 fifth-rounder David Cobb. That trio is likely competing for one roster spot, and at this point it is anyone’s guess who emerges in training camp. Sankey has averaged just 3.8 yards per carry over 199 career attempts, but that is still better than anything Andrews or Cobb has been able to muster.

ESPN Patriots reporter Mike Reiss mentioned Bishop Sankey as a running back that could potentially interest New England.

The Patriots have good depth among pass-catching running backs, starting with Dion Lewis and James White, but they could be in the market for a between-the-tackles runner type with LeGarrette Blount coming off injury and entering his age-30 season. Sankey seems destined to be gone from Tennessee after the Titans added DeMarco Murray and rookie Derrick Henry this spring.

Here’s the deal! The Miami Dolphins Have 3 R/B’s who are either “(hurting or Injured their is a big distention)” because a good running back will always be hurting? Injured means not available the very worse case scenario is to have all three on the bench injured?”

I def. agree with you Steve – we should get one more back in. You’ve been high on Sankey – I’d say get someone to come in an fight for the fourth or 5th spot…although I doubt they keep 5 unless it’s on the practice squad.

      • Steve

Understand and respect your point of view but don’t be surprised when we see Sankey in New England and we are defending against their run game with Sankey as the main ball carrier when we can get him for about the same as Foster.

Admin I would not bring in a R/B just to compete for a 5th spot? We are talking about winning games?

  • Lemmus

…Foster is old for a RB with a lot of mileage, plus his productivity the past 2 seasons when healthy has been miserable …of course that could be the Texans fault as much as his …and he fits Gase’s run game pretty well

…bottom line is that we swapped starting RBs with the Texans …they paid a huge price for the swap …we’ll soon know who got the best of whom

…Foster does provide veteran experience along with a pro-bowl record in his past …at the price we paid if that’s all we get, its still better than we have with the current stable

…but Foster’s contract provides immense incentives for him to have a “comeback player of the year” type season …if he still has the juice

    …sigh …damn “ifs”

hahah, yeah them if’s. Funny just read your comments after putting out an article on your comments…us old guys must be mind melding!!! Foster was productive, but I think alot of it was from high usage and also, ever since he went vegan he has been injured. I played with a guy who did the same thing with the same results…maybe they’ll get him to eat some steak and he’ll be a star again. Steak eater till I die!!!

Our Dolphins now have a trio of running backs carrying (If) A former pro Bowl running back is clearly a step in the right direction all jokes a side! If healthy? Bishop Sankey Tennessee Titan’s is healthy and available) Experience Backfield we cannot go wrong when the pressure is on Tannehill? I like the direction we are going!

Sean Wagner-McGough @seanjwagner from CBS Sports wrote about the pick-up below:

In seven seasons with Houston, Foster rushed for 6,472 yards, averaged 4.5 yards per carry and scored 68 touchdowns. Injuries, however, limited his production, with his 2015 season getting cut short due to an Achilles tear, which just happened to occur against the Dolphins.

With that injury in mind — plus the fact that Foster will turn 30 in August — the Texans cut ties with their all-time leading rusher after the season.

Arian Foster has played 25 of 48 games the past three seasons. 2.6 per rush last year. Games, not names. Never forget
    — Pete Prisco (@PriscoCBS) July 18, 2016
In Foster’s place, Houston signed ex-Dolphins RB Lamar Miller. Now, Foster will have his chance to replace Miller in Miami, where he actually scored his first career touchdown.

As it stands, the Dolphins’ backfield is comprised of:
    Jay Ajayi
    Kenyan Drake
    Isaiah Pead
    Daniel Thomas
    Damien Williams

So clearly, they don’t have much to lose by taking a chance on an established back like Foster. If Foster is healthy, he could end up being the steal of free agency. Unfortunately for the Dolphins, that’s one big if.

Jimmy we really need some positive’s from some of our IF’s. On a positive note out of Foster, Ajayi and Drake hopefully will convert our rushing game into the Best in the league by mid season? That being said I would set out the most injured for later games?, no need to pushed 3 injured players and get nothing on game days?

You know Steve, simply as a guy who can catch, work the perimeter, bring leadership and take some touches – at the price he is being brought in for, it’s a win or draw. There isn’t much losing that is attached to this deal. It’s a winner in that sense. This will pay off or end up as a near non-move. Williams, Foster, Ajayi and Drake is a decent stable that COULD amount to more. It is an IF, but this IF has very little negative repercussions attached, so I like it alot.

        1. A healthy Foster will definitely take the bulk of both passing and rushing yards.
        2. Drake (hamstring) , who the report describes as “a talented pass-catcher but unproven downhill
        runner,”
        3. Ajayi’s Rib injury from 2015, technically should win the starting job?

        Dolphins Back up plan?
        4. Damien Williams, Daniel Thomas or Isaiah Pead making a significant impact for Miami this season
appear diminished by Monday’s roster move.

Remember Morreno signed a 1 year contract with the Dolphins from Denver. Our 1st game that season we took out the PAT’s Morreno ran for about 134 yards and that was the last good game he had before injury.

If we have the opportunity to go after Bishop Sankey from Tennessee Titan did let get him now (Due to his Health and good durability history. I hope that all three stay healthy I really do! ” But We cannot fool ourselves with May Pop Tire’s?”
