Dolphins Taking A Good Look at CB’s

Dolphins Taking A Good Look at CB’s, Hargreaves isn’t one of them.

Dolphins Taking A Good Look at 13 CB’s.

The 2016 NFL Draft is less than two weeks away, and the Dolphins headquarters have been extra busy using their league allotted scheduled visits on potential draft prospects. One position that the Dolphins have focused on more than others in terms of player visits is the Corner Back position. The Dolphins have met with or are scheduled to meet with 13 corner backs.

William Jackson III University of Houston

Eli Apple Ohio State

Xavien Howard Baylor

James Bradberry Samford

Rashard Robinson LSU

Cre’ Von LeBlanc FAU

Ryan Smith North Carolina Central

Kevon Seymour USC

Traveze Calhoun Mississippi State

Eric Murray Minnesota

Tavon Young Temple

Artie Burns Miami

Tracy Howard Miami

The first thing that jumps out about this list is that Vernon Hargreaves from Florida is not one of them. He is considered by many to be the best cover corner in the draft. However, Miami must not feel the same, or they do not believe he will be available when they are on the clock at number 13. The other name that is surprisingly not on this list is Mackensie Alexander from Clemson. When the draft process began, many sports pay per head bookie fans were betting that Alexander would be the pick for Miami at #13. However, a hamstring injury kept Alexander from working out at the combine, and he has slowly been dropping on many draft pundit’s lists.

We have spoken about Eli Apple and William Jackson III before, and I think both players would be a good selection in the first round. Both players are at least 6 feet tall, and are very fast, and would be a good compliment with Byron Maxwell on the other side. I feel both players would be a better value a bit later in the first round, so it is possible that Miami could trade back a few positions, and still select one of these two high upside players.

Dolphins taking a good look at Xavien Howard.

The other big name on this list that I really like is Xavien Howard. He is a big bodied CB at 6’0”, 200 pounds like Apple and Jackson, but just not as fast. Many scouts were not expecting Howard to declare for the draft, but when he did and they took a closer look at his game tape, many scouts were pleasantly surprised.

In 2015 as a Junior Howard had 42 tackles, 5 interceptions and 10 passes defended. In 2014 as a Sophomore, he had 51 tackles, 4 interceptions, and 13 passes defended. Howard clearly has displayed ball hawking abilities, and has a lot of upside with the right coaching, Since Vance Joseph specializes in CB’s this could be a great pick in the second round, if Miami doesn’t go CB in the first round, or if we trade back and pick up an extra second round pick. Is it possible Miami could double down on CB and get 2 of the 3 players (Apple, Jackson, and Howard). What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about the list of CB’s that Miami has a scheduled interest in?

    7th rounder

    Daryl Worley, CB

STRENGTHS: Offers an intriguing natural skill set including great height, long arms and steady acceleration to handle outside coverage duties. Uses aggressive hands to get an initial shove on the receiver and isn’t afraid to ride wideouts throughout the route. Locates the ball quickly and shows the confidence, competitive nature, strength and leaping ability to contest the pass, including the hand-eye coordination and soft hands to pluck the interception. Generally reliable open-field tacker who flashes physicality to intimidate.

He has some off field problems with the Right mentorship program maybe a steal in the 7th round or FA???

Excellent Choice for undrafted Free Agents1

Taveze Calhoun CB 39 Mississippi State rSr 6-0 192 Ranked 39th may become an Undrated Free Agent (Then Bring to Camp)

Tracy Howard CB 74 Miami (Fla.) Sr 5-10 183 Ranked # 74 (CB)

Cleaveland Wallace III San “Hose StateHt. 5’11

IN OUR VIEW: Wallace is a legitimate prospect likely to generate early to mid Day Three consideration because of his length, speed and upside. He’s a bit raw, needing to get stronger and develop better ball-skills, but the tools are there to develop.

Juston Burris, CB Ranked 35th North Carolina State Ht. 6’0

IN OUR VIEW: Burris isn’t an elite speed player, but plays with the physicality and ball awareness to fight for playing time early in his career. He is ideally-suited for press-man and will earn his keep on special teams coverage’s.
    Dane Brugler (3/8/16)

Most likely undrafted Free Agent Ranked # 42
    Kevin Peterson CB Oklahoma
Peterson was a team captain and named top defensive player in 2015. He started alongside former Browns first-round pick Justin Gilbert but stood on his own feet last season against several of the nation’s top receivers – Baylor’s Corey Coleman, TCU’s Josh Doctson and Oklahoma’s Sterling Shepard.
IN OUR VIEW: With cover corner traits, Peterson is ready to contribute in the right scheme and sprinter speed – 10.86 in the 100 – could swing the pendulum in his favor.

I really can’t see them doubling up at the CB position inside of the top 4 rounds. Though I like the thought, there are to many other positions of need.

I disagreed to…even with 4 picks I figure Olinemen, Lb, Cb & DE But, you never know if the “right” one falls to them after a tradeback.

If Hargraves is there at 13, he would be their pick. This is the season of smoke screens. Not bringing Hargraves in for a visit doesn’t mean they don’t like him, that is exactly what they want teams to think. Their interview at the combine probably was enough, because the players tape is enough for them. Outside of Hargraves, I would like a trade down if they are going to take a CB in the first. There is decent depth at the CB position, so picking a CB in the 20’s or even in the second at 42 seems feasible.

This is a defensive heavy draft (good for us), and plenty of options at the CB position as well. Outside of Hargraves and Eliott, I’m hoping for a trade down.

Hopefully the Fins can Exercise some patience during the Draft because the Bronco’s, Jets etc. are teams looking for A QB and would trade with the Fins for more Picks. We could trade out of the 1st and 2nd round for at least 5 picks easily?

    Hargreaves CB

I believed the only Corner within reach of the dolphins in the draft that would start day one. But not listed? Best to draft A day one starting Offensive linemen.

Morgan Burns is a Corner Back But rated the number 3 kick/punt return man in the country? A 6th rounder? So many away games this season we need good field position expert returner. 10 to 20 yards returns will not win any games?

Damontae Kazee San Diego State Mountain West defensive player of the year with 8 interceptions/ return man not visiting either?
