Dolphins Gearing Up For Saints With Timmons In The Lineup

Timmons will bring relief to a porous Pass D for the Saints game

The Miami Dolphins finally pulled the trigger on Lawrence Timmons by removing his indefinite suspension, which lasted a grand total of 1 game. Apparently he’s going to play as soon as this weekend against the Saints in London.

Was this a fair move or a move of desperation by Adam Gase? It’s uncertain, because the circumstances surrounding his disappearance is still shrouded in secrecy. But, I can’t help but wonder if Miami had been 2-0 would that suspension still be ongoing?

Bottom line is: Timmons negatively affected the the Dolphins and was punished.

At the end of the day, the Dolphins are trying to win football games, and they paid him good money this offseason to help do that. At least, even if fans don’t feel they got their pound of flesh, he should be a strong addition to the current LB unit… at least he darn well better.

Considering Miami will face future Hall of Famer Drew Brees this upcoming weekend, the D is going to need all the help it can get.

Brees is likely licking his chops with excitement at having to face Miami’s struggling secondary.

Timmons will give a boost to the coverage and pass rush

While Bree’s receiving group is young and inexperienced, last week he was able to tear apart a stingy Carolina defense for 220 passing yards and 3 touchdowns, including hooking up with our old friend and family Ted Ginn Jr for a 40 yard touchdowns pass. Miami needs to find a way to prevent the big play from happening this week, or they are going to be in for a very long afternoon.

Now I doubt Brees isn’t as giddy about Miami’s pass rush, which has been effective. But the Saints have been quite good at protecting Brees with just 3 sacks and 14 hits. So the Fins defensive front will need to be at its peak to offset a weak back end of the squad.

On offense, Coach Gase must find a way to shake things up, whether that’s a lineup change or a better offensive game plan, or better yet, a little of both. Once again, I would say that we should try to get our other running backs such as Damien Williams and Kenyan Drake a bit more involved. For starters, this will give Ajayi a little breather, and it’s always good to get different personal involved, because each of these other running backs can provide a slightly different dynamic to the offense.

Also, what happened to getting the tight ends involved in the game?  Six million dollar Julius Thomas has a total of 6 catches for a paltry 42 yards, and Anthony Fasano has zero targets. Given Gase’s history of getting his Tight Ends heavily involved in the offense in both Denver and Chicago, you’d expect different results.

Dolphins need every edge they can get this week

The Saints defense averages 126 yard given up on the ground and has the second worst pass defense only to the New England Patriots with 331 yard per game. Man, that was very sweet to write… Pats at the bottom of the league in something!

No other way to slice it, this game will come down to the offense pulling its weight.

The best bookie service providers in the world opened this game with the Saints as a -3 point favorite.  The line dipped slightly to -2.5 yesterday, but is now back up to -3.

It’s no surprise that the action is coming in heavy on the Saints. The public sees little reason to risk their money on a team that lost to the ‘lowly Jets’ last week. However, as I have said in the past, I actually like the Dolphins odds better when they are the dog and the public is pounding the favorite. So maybe the Dolphins can actually bounce back this week and find a way to squeeze out a victory across the pond! They need it desperately, for sure! What are the rest of the Miami Dolphins News fans thoughts about the Dolphins chances of winning this weekend against Brees and the Saints?

“I expect the Chargers to beat the Fins going away with it. There is no way in hell Fins OT’s will block Chargers DE’s, which spells 4 sacks and 1 sack/fumble suffered by Cutler.

Fins WR’s wont be able to shake man coverage from those Corners, and I expect the Chargers to load the box to stop Jay-A.

Add to this the Fins tendency to be unable to stop the run and anyone can quickly see this game will be a blow out for the Chargers.

Can Timmons play guard? Maybe call plays?

OUCHHHHHHH!!! I’m behind this week. Usually I have watch the games of the other team, so I won’t stake money on it… BUT, I do like Miami’s Guard this week. Not do to their talent, but the lack of a D front on the Saints. Again, today I’ll get a better feel. Now as far as the calls go… that will be a mystery till kick off. I just gotta’ believe Gase will figure it out. At least I sure as heck hope so, Samson.

I canceled my NFL Package, so I wont be watching the game until these snow flakes stand for our National Anthem.

Besides, Peyton will certainly outcoach Gase and our DC, whatever his name is…

Oh, one last thing…I give it no later than mid season before Gase is officially designated on the Hot Seat.

      You heard it here first.

…unless there is a complete collapse, that won’t happen …I’m sticking with my 7-9 prediction …and Ross has a record of giving his HCs time to fix the problems they inherited …as I said before and mj is saying as well, Gase needs to be the HC and trust his OC to call the offense …scheme the game plan, make half-time adjustments …else-wise let the OC do his job

…we were here last year and Gase pulled a rabbit named Ajayi out of his hat …Bowles just showed the rest of the NFL how to skin that rabbit …we’ll either find a G and C that can get it done, or we’ll go 4 WR and dump it at 2 sec if there is any pressure …once they stop stacking the box, Ajayi can go back to work

…I’ve been focused on the Gs so much I really missed how much Pouncy’s play has degraded since his hip problems …mj did a very nice film job that exposed it …Pouncy is key to the OL …if defenses start to power play Pouncy like Bowles did, we’re going to be in constant trouble …that said, not every team has the personnel to beat Pouncy like that, but its evident he can be had and they will all try

…so January 2018 if things go as I expect, TH will be back at QB and we’ll have a high mid round shot at a Center in the 1st, and a G in the 2nd & 3rd and then defense …unless of course a FA solution is found …but the OL must be fixed …now why do I hear an echo when I type that?

…Timmons “should” help the defense but this is his first real test as a phin …and Brees is the best QB they’ve faced by far …I think it will come down to the HCs and I still like Gase over Payton …just don’t ask me why, eh

        • Lemmus

…note, if Gase should collapse, I’d suggest Ross call Manning and ask him to write his own contract …drop your shorts Ross, just do it …fantasy, I know …but that’s what fantasies are all about, eh

Well I can’t fault you for taking a stance freak–that what this thing is all about stances on both sides . I might as well, but my ticket isn’t refundable and with Jimmy being real limited, Phinsnews would likely be dead before he gets back full time. I have a family that has served for generations, so I get it, truly. As for Gase being on the hot seat, if he calls like he did verse the Jets, you’ll be correct. Other than that I don’t think so. Bad calls made the 1st game close and bad calls by Gase killed them week 2. Haven’t gone over the Saints games yet to form an opinion, but I like them this week to win. We’ll see.

After watching them for a bit, Saints are a fundamentally flawed team. They are small in the DL interior and lacking talent everywhere. They can pass with talented wides and have Brees… Ingram is nice and Peterson has some in the tank, but the OL isn’t very good. Saints were 0-2 before the Panther game. The Panthers 2-0 hadn’t scored a TD in eight quarters and had beaten the 49ers and beat the Bills 9-3. Cam had a absolutely terrible game and gave loads of points to the Saints. The Saints provide the Fins with a perfect springboard to get things rolling and have a load more talent. Does Gase put together a coherent gameplan? If he does, Miami wins by more than a score in my opinion.

YES!!! Freak chimes in, in favor of the Saints. Where were you prior to the Jets game? This is a good sign. Not only will Miami win Sunday, Gase may be in the coach of the year by mid season. Thank You Freak!!!!

I do agree with you about the anthem. Maybe some of the Miami players should have worried about the Jets game opposed to ways to protest.

I expected Fins to lose both games, in fact, they actually played to a loss if not for a missed FG by Chargers, Fins lucked out but played at a level equivalent to a loss. They sure showed up in NY though.

I dont believe Peyton has any trouble figuring out how to move the ball against our D, and I doubt Gase has an epiphany all of a sudden and becomes the second coming of , well… Don Shula.

They will have a losing record by mid season – yes, but you can look like youre improving with a losing record – see Browns, and others. Fins will have losing record AND look awful. = hot seat

        20-0 Dunner. Nuff said. Next.

…I won’t watch the game …until the NFL gets its act together, I’m done

Sad that this ridiculousness is costing you Fin time, but your stance in right. I would but (you can see my comments to Freak). Least, you can get wonderful game analysis here in the mean time :). I still don’t think this OL is terrible and think they are much better than last year–although that ain’t saying much. Calling shorts and runs with Thomas blocking with equal or poor numbers in the blocking game is only for elite O’s. Gase has been a bit delusional up to this point. Can’t seem the see the forest through the trees and just runs Ajayi despite what the defense dictates… terrible and short sighted.

Saints D fits perfectly what Miami does on offense. If Gase calls a semi competent game Miami wins. Timmons will go a long way towards making this D better… now Allen needs to be benched and Jones needs to ear his keep and Burke needs to get the CB’s and LB’s to challenge route with contact… they hope.

      • Dunner

I don’t see the defense as the problem thus far. Timmons will only help. I think Allen is a find. Oh yea, J.Thomas is so over rated, maybe another delusional eval by Gase?
