Big things coming for Rishard Matthews

football gambling

Any football gambling fan can tell you that Miami totally cleaned house with their receiving group and tight ends. Regardless of what Miami does with the rest of free-agency and the draft with the wide receiver position, one player on the roster that is going to get a fair chance to step up and show he deserves to get more playing time is Rishard Matthews. On a quick side note, I am being told that Miami has plans to meet with Greg Jennings, who to me would be a better personality fit for this team than Crabtree, and Philbin has a history with Jennings from their days together in Green Bay.

There is no mystery that Matthews and Philbin have had some personal issues with each other over the past three years, and there was a rumor after Miami waived Hartline and Gibson, that Matthew’s agent was asking the Dolphins to release or trade his client. That was obviously a weird rumor considering that with two of the Dolphins top 4 receivers being released from the team, football gambling fans would naturally assume that Matthews would have a golden opportunity in front of him as a Miami Dolphin. The reports proved to be false, and it seems that Matthew’s understands and realizes that he will get a fair opportunity to play a lot of snaps this season, because I am being told that he has already been working with Ryan Tannehill this off-season. (a real sign of initiative and solid work ethic.)

Even though Matthews only played 218 snaps last season he made the most of his limited opportunities by catching 12 passes for 135 yards and 2 touchdowns. More importantly the year before in 2013 after Gibson went down with a knee injury, Matthews stepped in and made 41 catches for 448 yards and 2 touchdowns, and showed he could be a reliable receiver. Matthews has plenty of talent and upside, he just needs more playing time to be able to produce better numbers.

As much as we need one more receiver either through the draft or free-agency, football gambling fans must not forget about Matthews, because he has shined before when his number was called, and there is no reason to think that he can’t do it again. I am going to go out on a limb and say he could be one of the biggest break out players for the Dolphins next season. He has 3 years experience and is already putting in the extra work this off-season, and then combine that with more of an opportunity in regards to playing time, and that is a solid recipe for a player poised to have a break out career season. What does the rest of Miami Dolphins news fans think about Matthews chances for success next season?

Almost time to start playing GM
Now if I was GM I would write on my draft board # 1 option WR one of the top 3
#2 option the top CB in the draft
#3 option trade back to 20 with The Eagles and pick up an additional third rounder and then at 20 select the best receiver or corner available or one of the top 2 running backs available in the draft if both are gone then go best receiver unless a corner you really wanted all along is there
Second round LB or whichever of the 3 options we did not pick in the first round
Third round one of the top 3 options from the first round whichever we did not get in first or second round
Then guard or safety or additional receiver in the fourth
5 ;6; and 7 rounds best available player in a position of need for the team maybe a TE is added here also

Not sure what the issues between staff and Matthews is? Understand he has been late for meetings in the past, practice habits? Whatever it is, hoping that he has moved past them and the staff can do the same. For as little amount of time he sees on the field, he sure makes it count. After all, he has as many TDs as Hartline or Gibson in a fraction of the playing time. He shouldn’t get discouraged if we draft another WR in the first round, step up to the challenge. Great to hear that he has already started to prepare for the upcoming season w/Tanny.

Yeah i agree Matthews has always made the most of his limited opportunities, and I am hoping that this season he can really step up and make us all forget about Gibson and Hartline

I’ve always liked & thought Rishard was a solid WR and given the chance, could be very productive. He has been productive when he does play. I’m really hoping the Fins sign Jennings. That move brings a solid vet to the WR core and doesn’t force you to take a WR in the 1st round. Focusing more on best player available, hopefully which also fills a need (DB, LB, OL). You can always pick up a WR in the 2nd round. New team this year. Should be fun.

Yeah I agree on both Robert, I have always been a fan of Matthews, and I think Jennings is by far the best fit of all the remaining wide receivers available. If we signed Jennings I would have to think we go Linebacker with the first pick

Jimmy, have a feeling your right, possibly a corner also, which saddens me, I would like a true #1 WR to grow with our young nucleus.

Well I would say if we do not sign Crabtree, Jennings or another vet, than we will be drafting a wide out. I really hope we do not draft a CB first round (only CB to go in the first is Waynes and CB is a tough position to hit on in the draft, big learning curve compared to college) If we do not go WR, then I at least hope we go linebacker over CB
