Another Jones Is Close To Being Signed By Miami

Jason Jones is a solid player that would be signed for fair market value.

Dallas seems to have taken a backseat and Jones is close to being signed by Miami.

Another Jones is close to being signed by Miami. According to David Moore of the Dallas Morning News, the Dolphins are close to signing former Lion DE Jason Jones to a contract.

This would be their second defensive line signing this week. It wouldn’t take a great pay per head bookie to figure the signing would likely eliminate the drafting of a DE in the first round and allow them to pursue other positions. While their DE ranks aren’t thin both Wake and Branch are FA next year and it could have forced them into picking a DE earlier than they wanted.

The 29-year-old is a former second-round pick by the Titans and had an above-average season last year, appearing in 15 games for the Lions, recording 31 tackles, 4.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus rated him as the 43rd edge rusher out of 110 qualifying players.

Jones would offer a veteran presence and a solid player.

This signing would offer further insurance on Wake’s recovery, add veteran presence, and give them draft flexibility with a fair market price. It would be a solid signing and further shore up the defensive line with depth, talent, and experience. The only negative is the effect on the compensatory picks formula.

Miami is continuing to purchase through the strength of position rather than desperation. And while he isn’t a Wake, he does flesh out the team concept that Miami is going for and could end up being a solid contributor for a couple of years. What do the rest of you Dolphins Fans think about the possible signing of Jason Jones? Go Fins!!!

I believe we are signing above average free agents at reasonable prices right now. I also believe as long as our players buys in to what our Coaching Staff is putting in front of them, that we will surprise alot of people this season. I have been a Miami Dolphins fan basically all my life. I will always stick with them through good times and bad times. Every Franchise goes through really bad strecthes for a period of time. Ours has just been a lot longer than we would like. We are going to be a great Franchise again really soon. And I believe we will start seeing a real progression upward over the next 5 years. Each year being better than the one before. I believe that we have truly found a gem in Coach Adam Gase. I believe he is going to make a name for himself in Miami, just like Don Shula did for over 2 decades.

I agree Roger…the proof will come draft time. This type of philosophy revolves around the draft and puts even more emphasis on it. I like this formula and am tentatively excited, more so than in a long time!! As if I needed to be more “jacked up” for an NFL Draft. And if he ends up half of Shula we fan would be truly lucky.
